News: Recent happeningsSome of you may think we've stopped working on Faeorn, but don't be fooled! We are still hard at work on it!
Recently, we have been working on getting all of the small bugs out of the game. We have also implemented our scripting language into the game, as we posted about on the Midtro Software Blog.
As for general progress, we're still moving along. One of the big things upcoming is that we're redesigning the UI (user interface) again, so it will be much more compact and friendlier.
I've been criticised a bit by not posting much news, but really I don't have that much to say as we're too busy working on the game.

News: Combat system videoFor all of our fans dying to see the latest video footage of Faeorn: your wishes have come true. We have uploaded a new clip of our combat system to YouTube.
Being the first video, we tried to keep it informative, yet unrevealing at the same time so we don't give away all of the surprises that we have in store.
More videos will be released later on, so stick around!

News: Happy EasterHappy Easter! Today I made a few changes to the menu and website design to clear up some of the clutter. We are in the first stages of preparing to shift gears on the web design soon, and hopefully we'll emerge with a good, workable one. The reason we had to get rid of the last one was because it was very vulnerable to breaking (half the site was broken in Internet Explorer), and it was not easy to work with. The current design is very basic, with a strong backend, ready for a good design to emerge. We're still stuck on the web design of the site, so if you have any suggestions, be sure to post in the forums!

News: Website screenshots updatedThe website screenshots have been updated with eight new pictures. You can find them on the Screenshots page.
We have also removed the old ones, as they are long out-dated and only create confusion.

News: Game progress updateI thought I'd let you all in on how we're doing.
April's beta probably will not happen, as it is still too early for us to get all that we want in the game whilst keeping it stable and organised.
Rather than going through a large list, I will simply link to a screenshot, which in general should explain how hard we are working and what we've done. Try and compare it to the ones in the Screenshots section!

News: Recent NewsBen is not sure on whether Faeorn will be available in April. Since he's the only strong core contributor towards Faeorn at this time, it seems that Faeorn will probably come out in May or sometime during the summer.
Since the last news post, Faeorn has received significant updates to many areas, including the more broad update to Archery. Ben has been working on the projectiles, animations and such for Archery, and it should be ready to go in due time.
The map editor is beginning to emerge as an aid to development of Faeorn. I'm not sure the status on it as of now, but it should be ready in due time as well. More details to come when this is released. For now, I just want to let you all know that April may or may not be the release date. We'll update you on this matter as April approaches.

News: New Site StyleI've decided to redo the website style. The other style was really messy with cross-browser capabilities, so we're going to start fresh with a new template which we designed. This will enable us to modify content a lot easier: the design which Jonny made for us wasn't exactly the easiest thing to work with.
Expect to see some unforeseen complications as you browse the site: we're currently in the process of overhauling the old style and old code too!

News: Progress updateIt has probably seemed very quiet around here, but we are indeed still working. Lately, we have been focusing on getting some important game aspects wrapped up. In lieu of giving too many surprises away, you can see the picture featuring some of our latest things here.
You can see that we now have a minimap, and the interfaces are now a lot bolder so it is easier to distinguish between multiple things open. The area where the picture was taken is just a randomly generated one for demonstration, hence why the ground is so bizarre and there is little life. For those of you who noticed the red flower, yes, we finally finished our object system!

News: Faeorn on FacebookI've decided to create a group on Facebook to attract more users. We might not get too many people from Facebook, but I've been considering to buy advertising spaces on Facebook in April for the beta release. If you have a Facebook account, be sure to join the group by clicking the link below!

News: Happy New Year!I know I'm about 4 days late in posting something with a title like this, however, I think it is time for another news post.
In development news, we did a massive upgrade of our underlying engine. In doing so we kind of pulled the rug out from under the game and the client was a big mess for about a day. Sometimes improvement comes by raising havoc. Of course, it's fine now and in working order.
Thanks to all of those who responded to our survey we sent out through the forum mail. Your responses are very valuable to the future of our game, and will not go unnoticed ;).
We are still planning on having April 2009 as our public beta date, but we'll just have to see, won't we?

News: News syndication (RSS)I have added RSS feeds for the news, so you can bookmark the feed and see our recent postings from it. For example, in Firefox, it would show up like this.
You can subsribe to the feeds through the feeds here: http://feeds2.feedburner.com/faeorn/dCtX, or if your browser supports it, there should be a RSS icon in your URL box.
P.S. I did some modifications to the RSS; there are no longer slashes in the message. - Zachera

News: Faeorn Knowledge BaseThe Faeorn Knowledge Base has been put into place to ease the stress upon players who need help on a wide variety of topics within Faeorn. We have installed MediaWiki as the Knowledge Base core to save us time from having to program our own. Unfortunately, we do not plan on making this wiki a public edit one, meaning, you cannot edit articles. Although, we will have trustworthy people run the Knowledge Base, and we might even have a section where you can apply to get power to edit the Knowledge Base as well. For now, that will have to wait, since we already have about five people running it.

News: Progress UpdateBen did a lot of work over the weekend, implementing many various features, two being music and inventory! You can now listen to music through the client and equip weapons to fight off monsters! Of course, we don't have combat just yet, but Ben is planning on doing this as one of the big releases in April, so stick around!
I've also added two new screenshots to the Screenshots page so you can take a look at the new features!

News: A large weekend, a large agendaWell, I've been looking forward to this weekend, seeing as how I have nearly 4 days remaining in it currently.
We're starting to head more in the direction of content in contrast to the past 3 months give or take of engine development. There still are a few difficulties, and big decisions to make. We've considered whether or not to make the game isometrical, but that would result in a lot more work, a lot more time, and a further delay.
I'm not sure how fast we can pace ourselves with the work load of content, but I'm hoping to at least have something released in April, however that date isn't set in stone.
The wonderful thing about MORPG games is the fact that it is ever expanding. We can make a small initial release, yet come back a week or two later with a new quest, perhaps a new skill. So, however small the April release may turn out to be, in fact will sort of be a door opener to the following content releases.
We hope that our game will be popular, and that people will enjoy playing it. There does seem to be an interest in it already, but our lack of providing any recent "demos" (remember the massive scrolls?) probably isn't sitting well with those who are still awaiting a release.
In conclusion, we're starting on the real game now, not just entirely working on the foundations for some mysterious game that may or may not happen.
(first long news post, yay!)

News: Language Support RemovedLanguage Support has been deprecated. At this time, we cannot afford the time to translate the Faeorn game plus the website on top of it. In order to do the website translation alone, we have to modify a lot of content, which disallows us to get on with building the game itself. We might bring back Language support in the future, but at the moment is it slowing down the development.

This weekend we are also doing some maintenance on the forums, so they will be unavailable for a little while (but should be back up on or by Monday).

News: MySQLThe problems of the MySQL server got to such a point that I had to reinstall the operating system on my server, so we have moved the MySQL to the same server which hosts the forum database. This should definitely make the SQL work a lot faster.

News: Future Website UpdatesI've already started to consider some important website updates within the near future. Some of these updates are good to help all players, as well as some updates which help secure the site a lot more. Here's a small list of some updates I hope to roll out before November:
 - Improvements on the News System
 - A small F.A.Q. about Faeorn
 - Policies and Terms of Service
 - Basic Support setup for the Faeorn game
I cannot guarantee that all these updates will come within the month of October, since I'm going to be busy with school and work. I will work on them though, and quite possibly test them within the site.

News: Downloads Page UpgradeI've upgraded the downloads page with a server list, some information on the icons displayed, and much more. Whenever you want to download a file, it checks through all of our download servers to see if they're online and then it checks to see if the file exists that you want to download. If all is good, you're set to download the file! Go ahead and try it yourself!

News: Monitoring system and database back onlineI have set up a monitoring system, so we will be more aware of when the database (or other parts of our soon to be complex network) go offline or unreachable.
The database is back online (clearly) and should stay that way this week. In the event that it does not, we can always turn on a backup server.

News: Database serverThe database server is back online. There were some problems with the server hardware causing it to explode. We're sorry for the complications and sincerely apologize.
In the meantime, I've added jQuery to the modules of the site, giving in a nice slide effect to them to make object triggering a lot smoother when they move up, down, left or right.

News: Welcome BackWelcome to Faeorn, the new 2D MORPG.
The reason we have changed our name is because one of the developers we kicked off of the development team had purchased the domain, and was offering to help us, but he didn't do a lot, so we booted him off. Since he is the legal owner of the domain, he refused to give it to us, so we were forced to think up a new name. This domain is now under the ownership of Zachera and Ben.
Ben is currently working on rewriting the client, while I might start programming some web applications for future uses. I'm also going to be changing database structures of the news eventually, but for now, the progress will be quiet and slow. We're not here to rush the client to the users quite yet, we've only started the first stages of developing Faeorn.

News: Old news has been repostedI have reposted some (not all) of the news we had on our old page. We now are using our own news system, and not WordPress.
The news that wasn't reposted was just mostly about the test clients that we released, so nothing very useful or worth reading as the test period is over.
If you do want to read the old news that we didn't repost, all of them are still posted in the "Updates and Announcements" section on our forums.

News: Recent progressWe have been busily working on the Pethorn client and server.
If you noticed on the test server a couple weeks ago, the game would use a very high amount of RAM. We have since fixed that, and each sprite now uses approximately 15% of the previous size. This will allow us to not only go ahead with our plans of making it an applet, but on the subject of content we'll be able to pack more stuff into one single area.
We are also working on a more simplified NPC system, as well as adding some features to the NPC system like dialog and soon, combat.

News: Updates Updates UpdatesYesterday we began work on our Interface Editor. This will allow us to create and edit interfaces quicker and more efficiently. Today we have furthered our progress on the Interface Editor.
We are rewriting our server to make it able to hold more players, and be more stable. This rewrite will be very important, as the server is vital for the game's future developments.
We have also tweaked the engine to run more smoothly, along with adding language support to the client meaning that there will be more than just English to choose from.

News: The future of Faeorn! We are currently in the process of developing Faeorn™. It is an RPG game that will be multiplayer and easily accessed from any computer with Java installed. It has great looking graphics, and plenty of them. We have a stock of over 750mb for future updates and content.
We do plan to host a live server, or even multiple servers if it gets popular. We have just started the framework, but we are progressing fast and have completed a lot that was needed.
The majority of the content will be server-side, so it is easy to issue updates. Sprites or music that the client is missing will be downloaded automatically from an update server. That saves time, and bandwidth, as the client only downloads what it needs and not an entire package if only one file has been added or modified.
We expect to have an open testing period once we have gotten it stable for testing. Remember that we have just started, so the time it takes to get the basics done can vary depending on what problems arise.
